LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Yankees left-hander Jose de Paula will undergo an MRI exam on his throwing shoulder on Thursday due to lingering soreness in the area.
The southpaw had been resting his arm after initially feeling discomfort a few days ago, but once again felt off when he tried to resume throwing on Wednesday. It's unclear at this point how or when de Paula suffered the initial injury.
"We'd given him a couple extra days because he was a little tender, and I guess he was throwing again, and it was a little different spot," manager Joe Girardi said. "So we're going to have an MRI."
de Paula, who signed a Major League deal with the Yankees this offseason, tossed two scoreless innings in his lone appearance this spring on March 7. He racked up a 4.21 ERA across 16 outings (10 starts) for San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate, Fresno, last season.
