Almost exactly five years to the day since the Tigers, Yankees and D-backs pulled off a blockbuster three-team trade, the three clubs are reportedly at it again.
WFAN Radio in New York was the first to report Friday that Arizona has agreed to send shortstop Didi Gregorius to the Yankees to become Derek Jeter's successor.
FoxSports.com furthered the report, adding that Arizona will receive left-hander Robbie Ray from Detroit, while Detroit will receive right-hander Shane Greene from New York.
The D-backs will also get 19-year-old middle infielder Domingo Leyba from the Tigers in the deal, which is pending physicals, according to a source. Leyba was ranked No. 8 among Detroit's prospects by MLBPipeline.com.
The clubs have not confirmed the deal.
Gregorius, 24, was signed by the Reds as an amateur free agent in 2007 and was part of a three-team deal with Arizona, Cincinnati and Cleveland in 2012. He made his Major League debut with the Reds in 2012 and has played 183 games over the past two seasons with the D-backs, batting .241 with 13 homers, 55 RBIs and 82 runs in that span.
Ray and Greene each made their Major League debuts last season.
On Dec. 8, 2009, the Yankees sent outfielder Austin Jackson and left-hander Phil Coke to the Tigers and right-hander Ian Kennedy to the D-backs, the Tigers sent outfielder Curtis Granderson to the Yankees and right-hander Edwin Jackson to the D-backs and the D-backs sent pitchers Max Scherzer and Daniel Schlereth to the Tigers.
