ANAHEIM -- The Yankees unsuccessfully challenged a call in the sixth inning of their game against the Angels on Monday night, placing Erick Aybar safely at third base.
With one out and Aybar at first base, Albert Pujols lined an Adam Warren pitch into left field. Aybar rounded second and went to third on left fielder Brett Gardner, who fired to third baseman Kelly Johnson on a close play.
Third-base umpire Marcus Pattillo called Aybar safe, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi challenged. After review, the umpires ruled that the play would stand as called.
Aybar was stranded at third base as Warren got C.J. Cron to foul out and induced Howie Kendrick to ground out.
