TAMPA, Fla. -- Bryce Harper ripped a run-scoring triple before Ryan Zimmerman and Ian Desmond drove in runs, leading the Nationals' charge against CC Sabathia and the Yankees in an 8-2 victory on Friday at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The clubs concluded Grapefruit League play, zipped their bags and headed to the airport as right-hander Stephen Strasburg pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball to earn the victory.
Strasburg scattered six hits with a walk and six strikeouts, ending his spring with a 4.20 ERA in four starts. He will next face the Mets on Thursday.
Sabathia permitted three hits and two walks in a rocky first inning before settling down to complete 5 1/3 frames. Preparing for his season debut on Thursday against the Blue Jays, the left-hander permitted three runs and five hits, walking three and striking out three.
"I just wanted to come out of it healthy and feel good, and we got that accomplishment," Sabathia said.
Returning from right knee surgery, Sabathia wrapped the Grapefruit League campaign with an 8.10 ERA in three starts, spanning 10 innings. Sabathia allowed 14 hits, including three homers, while walking three and striking out nine.
Chase Headley had a fourth-inning RBI double for the Yankees, while Mike Carp added a three-run homer in the seventh for Washington. The two clubs will meet again on Saturday at Nationals Park in Washington before beginning the regular season.
